The first installation of 64-slice Computed Tomography (CT) in Bach Mai Hospital, Hanoi

Computed Tomography (CT) is one of the advanced methods of radiological diagnosis, in which multi-slice CT is state- of- the- art technology applied widely throughout the world. The installation of Siemens’s SOMATOM Sentation 64- slice CT scanner has been completed and put into operation in Bach Mai Hospital, Hanoi on 20 October 2006. With the most advanced imaging technologies, this is the first time a 64-slice CT scanner has been equipped in the North of Vietnam, enabling to increase the clinical diagnostic capabilities, especially in the cardiology and angiography.

Additionally, it allows for maximal diagnostic details at the fastest acquisition speed and the lowest possible radiation dose. MSCT helps radiologists not only examine the entire vascular system but also to robustly image the heart and the coronary arteries in only a few seconds. Besides, you can perform accurate stenosis measurements and stent planning.

With Siemens’ unique STRATON® X-ray tube, revolutionary z-SharpTM Technology, the system enables visualizing the smallest pathology and finest anatomical structures with exceptional quality clinical applications in cardiology, neurology, oncology, trauma, virtual endoscopy and ENT etc..

With the fastest acquisition time and lowest possible dose for patients, 64-slice CT technology allows you not only examine the entire vascular system without venous contamination, but also to robustly image the heart and the coronary arteries in only a few seconds. Additionally, you can perform accurate stenosis measurements and stent planning.

Besides, with the fastest gantry rotation speed available of 0.33 seconds and high volume coverage, SOMATOM Sentation 64-slice scanner is also applied widely in oncology which offers to exam, diagnose and monitor the tumors, tumor perfusion and whole-body metastasis screening. This technology enables the whole-body scanning in only 20 seconds for multi- trauma patients. Virtual endoscopy is also an outstanding advantage of SOMATOM Sensation 64 CT Scanner with the slice depth of below 1mm and high resolution, providing the higher diagnostic value compared with the 6 or 8 slice CT scanners.
