   Siemens in Vietnam

Siemens has a long history in Vietnam which is dating back to 1979 when we supplied and installed two industrial steam turbines and electrical equipment to Bai Bang Paper Company. The company's activities in Vietnam expanded in 1989, with the construction of the 140Mbit/s transmission linking Ha Noi – Da Nang – Mekong Delta provinces. The establishment of our representative offices in 1993 in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City was one of the most significant and far-reaching steps in our history. It marked a comprehensive long-term and fruitful partnership between Vietnam and Siemens.

The year 1995 marked the start of a successful cooperation between Siemens and Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Cooperation (VNPT) with two joint ventures, Fiber Optic Cable and Accessories Limited (FOCAL) and Telecommunications Equipment Limited (TELEQ). As part of a worldwide restructuring of the cable business, Siemens transferred its stake in FOCAL to Corning Incorporated in 2000. The rapid expansion of its business relations with Vietnam prompted Siemens to establish Siemens Limited in September 2002. In 2005, Siemens Automation Systems Limited was founded to produce busbar trunking systems for Vietnamese and Asian markets.

Siemens has participated in numerous Vietnam’s infrastructure projects, particularly in all key areas of the economy such as telecommunications, power generation and transmission, industrial automation, healthcare and transportation. Our achievements are marked by the construction of 720-MW Phu My 3 combined-cycle power plant - the first foreign invested Build Operate Transfer (BOT) power project, the installation of over 4 million communication ports based on EWSD technology, the supply of 16 diesel-electric locomotives to Vietnam Railways, and the recent orders for two power plants with a total capacity of 1,500 MW.

Today, Vietnam is getting more and more attractive for foreign investors owing to its remarkably improved business environment. By offering our partners and customers a wide range of innovative products, solutions and services, we will further support the economy and infrastructure development in Vietnam. Besides, Siemens will continue to comprehensively enhance local labor trainings, environmental protection and preservation as well as community healthcare. We strive to be an integral part of Vietnamese economy. Together with our local partners and customers, the company will continue to build lasting partnerships for joint success based on respect, trust and mutual benefit.
